So everyone knows a JPEG file by it’s extension, .jpg. But look at it with the file tool, and you get something like this:

findcover.jpg: JPEG image data, JFIF standard 1.01, aspect ratio, density 1x1, segment length 16, baseline, precision 8, 1600x900, frames 3

“JPEG image data, JFIF standard 1.01”. So, what exactly is the difference in these two? And furthermore.. why are we using the wrong name for the file format in the first place?

I love my music, especially when burning through a blogging backlog, or when polishing off a program. I have a playlist on YouTube with 122 videos in it, as of the time of writing. Probably closer to 118 that are actual music tracks that I can listen to. The issue here, obviously, is that they’re on YouTube. Well, anyone who’s looked hard enough will heave heard of youtube-dl, A nice little program that can download videos, or even entire channels/playlists if you give it the URL for one. Continue reading
